IOMAS is only starting to consider how best we could involve volunteers further in our work.
Our Board of Directors are volunteers, as are some members of the IOM Adoption & Permanence panel. We are currently looking to recruit additional members for each.
If you feel you might enjoy the challenge of helping shape the future of adoption on the island, perhaps you would consider becoming a Director of the charity.
Alternatively if you would like to be part of an independent body of people who meet monthly to consider and make recommendations about applications to adopt and the interests of children needing adoptive homes, then becoming a panel member may appeal to you.
No specific qualifications are needed for either, but commitment and spare time will make a huge difference to the lives of both children and families linked through adoption. For further information about either opportunity, please contact Catriona Morris, the agency manager on 625161.
We also use volunteers in cataloguing our library, and in creating the Manx books for children through our Life Changes project.
Without our current group of volunteers we would not be able to achieve the full range of services we currently offer. We are very grateful to each and every one.
Future opportunities: see our news/events section. In the near future we will be looking for a document archivist to help us redesign our file storage system (by law, we need to keep all our adoption files for a minimum of 70 years). Perhaps this is an area where you already have experience. If so, please contact us.
