The Adoption Register is a database which holds information about children awaiting adoption and adopters wishing to adopt. Approved local authority adoption agencies and voluntary agencies send in data to the Register about adopters after they are approved to adopt and about children for whom adoption is the plan. The Register then suggests links between the children and prospective adopters. IOMAS refers all prospective adopters to the Register as soon as they are approved, thus maximising the possibility of a link. Consent is always obtained before a referral is made.
